Wednesday Nights

For the next three Wednesdays (May 2, 9 & 16) we will offer a class for both kids and parents of kids!  Pizza will be served at 5:30 PM, and the classes will meet from 6:00-7:30 PM.  Please contact Renee to make reservations for dinner. 

  

For the Kids (Grades 1-5)  

We will be learning about the books of the Old Testament as we continue the "What's In the Bible" series.  This series was developed by Phil Vischer (of Veggie Tales fame), and helps kids learn about the books of the Bible in an entertaining way that kids will enjoy.  Any kid who is in Grades 1-5 is welcome to join us this Wednesday night.

  

For the Parents

Parents, please consider attending this 3 week Parenting Seminar, especially if your child is getting ready to be in Middle School.  Please read the description below: 

 

"Can You Hear Me Now" is a 3-week discussion oriented class that will focus on key aspects of your relationship with your older child or teenager. Specifically, the class will provide biblical insight as you journey with them in the area of sexual purity. These adolescent years are clearly some of the most critical times of their young lives. During this season of life, Satan will tempt our kids with all sorts of immorality which he intends to use to divide our families and to deceive our kids. Are we intentionally and frequently speaking God's truth about sex into the hearts of our kids? Are we purposely involved in their dating lives? Are we choosing to nurture the relationship with our students? Rob and Shawn Grubb will facilitate this class in hopes of empowering each of us to enhance communications and improve relationships with our students. Christian parents arise, it is time to break the silence and fight for the purity that God has ordained for our children!

VBS - BEYOND THE SKY!!!  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It is time to sign up for VBS!  At BEYOND THE SKY, kids will discover that everything is possible with God - a fact that will change them forever!  BEYOND THE SKY will be filled with incredible Bible-learning experiences, crafts, games, and songs.  We will start with Parent's Night on Sunday night, June 10TH .  There you will get a sneak peek at what we have planned for the kids all week long!  James Spann and his crew will be there to lead the festivities.  Kids and Crew Leaders will come back each day, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 am until noon.  You can register your child (completed Kindergarten through Fifth Grade) and/or register to serve as a Crew Leader. VBS Needs Crew Leaders!

Crew Leaders are one of the most important ingredients to a great VBS.  Each Crew Leader will be assigned 5 children that he or she will have the opportunity to influence for the week.   Crew Leaders don't have to prepare anything; they just come each day, guide their Crew members through activities, help facilitate discussions, and generally join the fun.  We will have a Crew Leader training meeting on May 20th at 5:00 PM.  There you will get all the information you need to prepare you for VBS.  You will get a preview of the week, and have an opportunity to make requests, ask questions, and get a free snack supper!  (To be a Crew Leader you must be age 15 or have completed 8th grade). Sign up today!

 

Kids Camp Registration

Kids Camp is a Christian retreat designed especially for kids who have completed Grades 3-5. It is held at Shocco Springs Conference Center in Talladega.  Special times of worship and Bible Study are planned for each day.  There is also lots of time for swimming, outdoor games, and other recreational activities.   The dates for Kids Camp are June 25-28.  Cost is $269 per camper.  To register you will need to pay a $50 deposit (make check payable to Double Oak Community Church).  There will be a sign up sheet at the Information Desk.  We have 40 spots available given to the first 40 kids who register.
